INFO:
One of the most difficult things about being mixed race is that we have no community. This can often lead people to feel isolated and alone. I’m half Irish - half Iranian. One of my friends is half Thai - half French. Another one of my friends is half Nigerian - half Swedish. We’re all mixed race and yet we all look VERY different. We have shared experiences but have lived very different lives. In a previous video I said that I didn’t have white privilege and I’d like to correct that. I definitely do experience privilege as a white passing person. I was trying to explain that despite looking white I have faced racism my whole life. And that being white as an Irish person didn’t help during our 800 years of being occupied by the British. With that being said, on a global scale in the modern world I definitely do experience privilege as a white passing person, so I apologise for saying otherwise 🫶🏼 It’s a difficult thing to explain, because it’s so different for everyone, and it can hard to understand the magnitude of violence and discrimination that mixed race people face because you may just see them as white, or black, or asian, or whatever your eyes lead you to believe. I know people who aren’t even mixed raced who feel the same way. I have multiple friends who were born in one country, but both their parents are from another country. They don’t feel like they’re accepted in either because they act too western for Asians and look to Asian for Westerners. I want to set up a community for anyone who wants to learn more about this topic, or discuss their own experiences and connect with like minded people. I’m surprisingly bad with technology so I don’t know the best way to do this. Do I start like a discord or a website or something 😅 any suggestions are welcome and appreciated 🙏🏼
